Portraiture and Fine Art by Susan Obaza

Sue was born in Cleveland, Ohio to parents who instilled a love of the arts in all their children. Earliest memories include trips to museums and cultural events, and art and piano lessons, Art took a back seat to dental technology training and marriage, however, until she and her husband moved to Nanticoke, PA following the death of her father-in-law. Disconnected from family and lonely, Sue renewed her art interest and began a journey toward a career starting with a prayer for guidance and a determination to learn. She began drawing with colored pencils, following the advice of her paternal aunt, herself a successful painter. This lead to taking a class in the medium, in which fellow students encouraged her to continue her education.
Sue enrolled at Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) in the commercial art program, specializing in painting and drawing for illustration. She learned to oil paint through the instruction of artist and teacher Mike Molnar. Sue graduated with honors and continued her training under Tony Waichulis at his studio in Nanticoke. She participated in group shows with the studio, national and international exhibits in New York City and Europe and numerous local venues. Sue became an adjunct faculty member at LCCC, teaching beginning drawing, and has a life drawing group through the Wyoming Valley Art League which meets on Tuesday nights. Her specialty remains portraiture done in colored pencil.
"I Believe an artist has the highest priviledge a human can have, which is to be involved in the process of creation."
